Thursday Recap Report-Weekend Possibilities:

For local fishing in Santa Monica, Long Beach, Catalina and San Clemente Islands.
02-04-10

It’s all about the Giant Humboldt Squid! They are as thick as lice, averaging 20 to 50 pounds. Wear a raincoat or something to protect the clothing from the ink and water sprays that are sure to come. To avoid being squirted, gaff the Squid in the tail, hold until the ink and water reservoir is drained, then bring aboard before the Squid can re-load. I prefer cutting off the heads before bringing on the boat anyhow, makes for good chum as well. Gut the Squid and place on ice as soon as possible. This reduces the ammonia released into the flesh upon death.

Unfortunately the weather forecast for the weekend calls for rain both days, so enjoy your Super Bowl Party! On Saturday pick out a good book, and light a fire in the fireplace and catch up on some R and R!

Islands!

CatalinaThe ¾ day Sport King made a run to the Island Saturday 01-30-10, with 13 anglers catching 6 Calico Bass, 38 Bonito, and 144 Perch.

Travis fished on the six pack boat “Ready to Assemble” with friends Matt and Darren, on Saturday 01-30-10. They didn’t get into any Bonito Bite, but caught a bunch of Calico Bass to 7.5 pounds, and a good sized Halibut.

The Sport Boat Options fished the Island Saturday 01-30-10, catching limits of Calico Bass, but no White Sea Bass.

The last Private boater, who fished Catalina, had a great bite on some big Calico Bass. If you target the Bonito on the front side, it can be fun on light tackle.

San Clemente Island

Lots of Calico Bass have been caught on the very few trips to the Island.

No Sporties out again, that I know of.
